Miss Opal Dorothy Towns, age 94, of Riverwood Retirement Home, Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007.
Miss Towns was born in Floyd County, GA on November 23, 1913, the daughter of the late John Williams Towns and Lillie Mae Middleton Towns. She spent most of her life in Floyd County. Miss Towns was a trained beautician and worked for many years as an inspector in Villa Rica, GA. She enjoyed her retirement the most as being a foster grandparent at the Northwest Regional Hospital where she saw joy and happiness in the faces of the patients, as she offered needed help in the little things of life. Miss Towns was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed Sunday school classes and church services at the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church while she was in Rome and able to attend. In addition to her parents, Miss Towns is preceded in death by two brothers, Coy Towns and J.R. Towns.
Miss Towns is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Smith of Lithonia, GA and Mrs. John Paul Jones of Summerville, GA. Also, surviving her are nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crowe, Mrs. Bobby Crocker, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Towns, Mr. and Mrs. Don Sosebee, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Barnes, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Armuchee Cemetery.
Miss Towns will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday by 10:30 A.M.: Arthur Crowe, Tim Crowe, Roy Towns, Allen Sosebee, Daryl Sosebee, Paul Jones, Phillip Crocker, and Geoffrey Sosebee. Honorary pallbearer will be Don Sosebee.
