Oscar Finchum

January 8, 1929 — December 25, 2008

Oscar L. Finchum Jr., 79, of Cartersville passed over into heaven Thursday, December 25, 2008 at his residence after a long battle with COPD. Born in Manchester Tennessee on January 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Elder Oscar Finchum and the late Clara Belle Stone. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Finchum and Alma Noble; his brothers, Ellis Davis, Jerry Finchum, and David Finchum; and his grandson, Shane Finchum.



Oscar enjoyed southern gospel music, family reunions, and good fire and brimstone preaching. He was a loving man who enjoyed life and surrounded himself with his family who loved him so much. Oscar was old-fashioned and would not change his mind once it was set. He loved to laugh and share a good story. Oscar will be greatly missed by all, but now he is rejoicing with all that have gone on before.



Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Miss Helen; his children, Wayne Finchum, Bonnie and James Harden, and Wanda Pennington, all of Manchester, Tennessee, James and Cheryl Deatherage of Snellville, Billy and Vicky Deatherage of Hiram, Sharon and Andy Mitchell of Marietta, Richard Deatherage of Cartersville, Vickie and Frank Haddock of Ft. Oglethorpe, and Lynn Deatherage, Joe and Tina Deatherage, and Michelle and Danny Martin, all of Cartersville; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at The Canton Road Church of God with Rev. Dewayne McCreary and Rev. Dale Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Finchum�s grandsons, Kenny Finchum, Richard Deatherage, Jr., Eric Deatherage, Joshua Deatherage, James Deatherage, Ricky Blount, Jackob Muller and John Berryhill.



The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
