Oscar Thacker

Mr. Oscar Thacker, age 84, of 2594 Kingston Hwy, Rome, GA, died March 24, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Mr. Thacker was born in Bartow County, GA on June 9, 1922, the son of the late Arthur and Emma Woodall Thacker. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired as a mechanic where he owned and operated Thacker's Garage. Mr. Thacker enjoyed working on cars and visiting nursing homes where he would read the Bible to the residents. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thacker is preceded in death by four brothers, Lee Thacker, Buddy Thacker, Floyd Thacker, and Louie Thacker.

Mr. Thacker is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Selman Thacker and three sisters, Ollie Mae Huckaby of Armuchee, GA; Ruby Wright of Ringgold, GA, and Gertrude Garrett of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Miles officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

Mr. Thacker will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Wednesday by 10:30 A.M.: Rodney Selman, Donald Thacker, Wendell Thacker, Randy Garrett, Danny Thacker, and Eddie Garrett.
