Mrs. Pauline Crowe Whorton, age 97, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Whorton was born on May 8, 1911, the daughter of the late A.D. Crowe and Fannie Welchel Crowe. She worked for several years until the closing of the Anchor Rome Mill. Mrs. Whorton was a member of Desota Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Whorton was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Whorton; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Mooney; a son, Gene Whorton; and a brother, Marvin Crowe.
Mrs. Whorton is survived by three grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Purdy of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Murdock officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, and Miller Funeral Home.
