Ray Ashcraft

September 27, 1930 — September 5, 2008

Ray A. Ashcraft, 77, of Cartersville passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home. Born September 27, 1930 in Eldorado, Kansas, he was the son of the late Wilson Sylvester Ashcraft and the late Vernavida Speaker Ashcraft. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Darell Ashcraft, Richard Ashcraft, George Ashcraft, and Harvey Ashcraft; and his son, John Ashcraft.



Mr. Ashcraft was had retired from National Elevator Company as an elevator mechanic. He was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #32. Mr. Ashcraft was also a veteran of the United States Army having served as a tank mechanic. A Korean War veteran, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post 8022.



Survivors include his wife, Winona Akers Ashcraft of Cartersville; his daughter, Jackie Tilk; his step-children, Donna Sue Pence, Sherry Joy Hill, Harrison Hall Jr., George Hall, Susan Bishop, and LaDonna Young; his brother, Galen Ashcraft; his sisters, Shirley Dunn and Rita Ashcraft; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42 will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.



The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
