R.E. Collum

July 26, 1938 — March 1, 2011

Mr. R. E. �Ed� Collum, 72, of Rydal passed away Tuesday, March 01, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Born in Gordon County, July 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Allen Battles Collum and the late Ruth Romine Collum. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Emma Lee Lackey Collum; his brothers, Frank and Jerry Collum; his sister, Magdalene Cline; his grandson, Jesse Smith; his great-grandson, Jaylon; his sons-in-law, Alfred Smith and Michael Lee Kaylor.



He was a member and Deacon of Clear Creek Baptist Church and the Clear Creek Baptist Brotherhood. He loved his church and was a great family man. He enjoyed family gatherings and barbequing in his shed. Ed was a retiree of Atlantic Steel. He was a great mechanic and enjoyed restoring old tractors and cars in his spare time.



Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Ross Collum of Rydal; his daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Bret Dunham of Acworth, Shirley Batson of Acworth, Reita and Johnny Thornton of Talladega, Alabama and Renae Kaylor of Cartersville; his sons and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Tammy Collum of Rydal and Joe Collum of Talladaga, Alabama; two stepchildren, Michael Collum and wife Janice of Rydal and Christy Estes; his brothers, Clarence (Bo) Collum, George and Jeff Collum; his sisters, Willene Perry, Lillie Huskins, Jearlene Herring, and Joyce Hufstetler; twenty three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2011 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Donnie Summey, Rev. Freddie Morris and Rev. Harley Gayton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.



Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Asherbranner, Zac Smith, Gary Lackey, Bruce Lackey, Terry Vaughn and Bret Dunham. These gentlemen are asked to meet at 1:15 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Gene Leonard, Gene Morrow, Jack Edwards, Jack Darnell and Freddie Morris will serve as honorary pallbearers.



The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.
