Reba Matthews Allen, 92, �Miss Reba� as she was affectionately known, died in her home surrounded by friends and family on Monday, September 28, 2009. Born October 16, 1916 in Bartow County, she was the daughter of John and Gussie Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Albert Allen Sr., and her sister, Annie Lee Kimsey.
Mrs. Allen served as Postmaster of the Cassville Post Office for 22 years from 1956 to 1978 and was known and loved by everyone in her community. She received the Community Service Award in 2005 for her dedication to the preservation of the history of Cassville and for her many years of serving others. Mrs. Allen was also the oldest surviving member of Cassville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, John A. Allen, Jr. and wife, Jane Ann of Dahlonega, granddaughter, Candice Simmons and her husband, Adam, and great-granddaughter Lauren of New Bern, NC; step-granddaughter Jennifer Faucette and her husband, Greg, and daughters, Sarah and Lindsay of Vienna, VA; step-grandson, Tim Swearingen and his wife, Megan, and children, Ryan and Riley of Dacula; and nephew, Joel W. Kimsey and his wife, Doris of Cassville.
We will miss her warm, caring ways, her wonderful sense of humor, and that bright sparkle in her eyes. She will remain in our hearts always.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2009 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services Rev. Ralph Shook, Rev. Mark Somers, and Mr. Peter Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cassville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children�s Homes and Family Ministries, 505 Waterworks Rd., Palmetto, GA 30268.
