Mrs. Retha Tatum Sharit, 82, of 611 Cassville Rd., Cartersville joined her husband in heaven on her birthday, Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center. A native of Bartow County, she was born January 1, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents, Van Buren Tatum and Mamie Martin Tatum; her husband, Vernon T. Sharit; her sons, Arnold Knox and Rena Roberson; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Sharit had a strong will, a strong faith and loving spirit. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. Mrs. Sharit was the matriarch of the family and devoted herself to raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of The Church at Liberty Square and loved gospel music.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Janice Knox; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Chuck Suttles; her sisters, Willie Chastain and Tinnie Wise; her grandchildren, Chuck Knox, Chris Knox, Jeremy Roberson, Charla Barron, Arend Roberson, Breanne Barnette, Amanda Pettepher, Crystal Barnette, and Nicole Knox; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mrs. Sharit's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Dr. Joe Edwards and Rev. Danny May officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Knox, Jeremy Roberson, Matt Pettepher, Max Barnette, Taylor Knox, and Chuck Suttles.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Those who wish may send flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of the Community Heart House, ℅ Heart of the Community Foundation, PO Box 5064, Rome, GA 30162.
