Reverend James "Donnie" Donald Summey, Sr., 74, of Cartersville passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
Donnie was born on November 17, 1947 in Cartersville. Donnie married Pat Summey on August 27, 1967, they celebrated 54 years of marriage and had 3 children. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1970 and became a Free Mason in 1977. Donnie announced God called him to preach in 1984 and was ordained as a preacher on October 2, 1999 when he was called to Pastor Blue Springs Baptist Church where he Pastored for 5 years. Later he was called to Pastor Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church where he Pastored for 2 years. Next, he was called to Pastor Clear Creek Baptist Church for 13 years, where he was still an active member.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Summey; his son, Reverend James "Jimmy" D. Summey, Jr. and his wife, Christy Summey; his daughter, Jennifer Summey Graves; his brothers, Reverend Ronnie Summey, and Reverend David Summey and his wife, Kay Summey; his sister, Cathy Summey Abernathy; and his sisters-in-law, Ann Summey, and Barbara Harris Summey.
Donnie had 15 grandkids, and 12 great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his daddy, Reverend Francis M. Summey; his mother, Annie Louise Summey, his daughter, Malissa Summey Earwood; his brothers, Marion B. Summey, and Ricky Summey; his brother-in-law, Stevie Abernathy; his sister-in-law, Jane Summey; and his niece, Dee Summey Chance.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Reverend Reggie Nation and Reverend Joel Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be James "D.J."Donald Summey III, Daniel Earwood, Jonah Earwood, Aaron Earwood, Samuel Earwood, and Tyler Edwards.
