Mr. Richard Alfred Knapp, 73, of Cartersville, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Maple Ridge Health Center. Born May 6, 1939 in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Alfred Knapp and the late Regina Ferrari Knapp.
Mr. Knapp was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from American Express. He was a lifelong New York Yankees and New York Jets Fan. Richard was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. His loving wife, Virginia said "he rescued me at a very bad point in my life; he was the best husband in the world".
Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Knapp of Cartersville; his devoted daughter, Elizabeth Clarke and her husband, Michael of Weston, Florida; his grandchildren, Dylan and Taylor Clarke; his loving and wonderful step-children, Timothy Mosler and his wife, Amber of Atlanta, Kimberly Turcott and her husband, Troy of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his brother John Knapp of Tampa, Florida; his sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Fazio and her husband, Steve of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Jean Knapp of Sands Point, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was an advocate of rescuing the retired greyhounds and had six altogether during is eighteen year marriage to Virginia. Smitty is missing his master now.
