Richard Owens
February 9, 1945 — August 24, 2023
Richard was born in Gadsden, Alabama on February 9, 1945 to the late Sanford Joshua Owens and Artie Marie Owens (Goins). He is also preceded in death by 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and his niece, Rebecca "Becky" Kimberly (Tolnai).
He is survived by the mother of his children, Joan Hensley Owens; his daughter, Gwendolyn Owens; his son, Jeremy Owens; his grandchildren, Randi Mullins (Tommy), Rachel Calvin, Richard Owens III, Rebekah Owens, and Adalynn Reece; his great-grandchildren, Patrick "Patch" Smith, Nicholas "Nick" Calvin, and Caspian "Cas" Owens; his sister, Anna "Annie" Tolnai (Gabor); his brother, Charles Owens (Joyce); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; and one estranged son, Richard Owens Jr.
In his early years Richard worked as an independent contractor in construction, but his true passion lived alongside his faith. He was a devout Christian and worked as a traveling evangelist hosting revivals in different churches all over. Later in life he did missionary work in Mexico via Texas and loved to travel. He is loved immensely and will be very missed.
A funeral service will be held to honor Richard's life on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Greg Ellis and Portia Howard will be officiating the service. Richard's family will be hosting friends for a visitation on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Payne, Grant Payne, Patrick Smith, Nick Calvin, Tommy Mullins, and Randi Mullins.
