Mr. Richard White age 84, of 158 Bert Road, Rome, GA, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. White was born in Brookside, AL on July 7, 1925, the son of the late Mary Ann White and Nathan White. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Galey and Lord. Mr. White was a member of Rush Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee, Worship Committee Member, head usher, and a member of United Methodist Men�s Group. Also, he served on the Council Board and had been an active member of the Shannon Noon Optimist Club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Susan Marie White Holmes of Bon Air, GA; sisters, Ludean Corkin; and brothers, Orville, Ira, Grady, Wilburn, and Ellis White.
Mr. White is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Louvina Sullivan White of Shannon, GA; a daughter, Norma (Toni) Smith (Benny); grandchildren, Tammy Y. Smith, Benjie Scott Smith (Stacy), Sherri Smith Cash (Andy) of Rome, Jennifer Lynn Phillips (Andy) of Covington, GA, Richard Jason Holmes of Bon Air, GA; great-grandchildren, Anna Kate Cash, John Andrew Cash, Branson Smith, Dillion Ingle, Logan Williams, and Jordon Holmes; and two sisters, Polly Massey (Truman) of Denton, TX and Irene Roby of Winfield, AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 1, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Rush Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Russell and Tom Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday from noon until the funeral hour in the Rush Chapel United Methodist Church, 1225 Rush Chapel Road NE, Rome, GA 30161.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church by 1:30 P.M.: Eddie McSwain, Gordon Haney, Andy Cash, Thad Rush and grandsons, Richard Jason Holmes, Benjie Scott Smith.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Darshak Pandya, Dr. Robert Smith, and Dr. Melissa Dillman, and their staff for their special care and concern for our beloved husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Also, a special thank you to Eddie McSwain a dear friend of Mr. White and to Heyman Hospice for all they did.. A special heartfelt thank you to his Rush Chapel United Methodist Church family who he loved dearly.
