James Ricky Godfrey, 48, of 1970 Hills Creek Rd., Taylorsville died on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at his residence. A native of Bartow County, Mr. Godfrey was born on October 31, 1958 to Elene Watson Godfrey and the late James C. Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his father and by his father-in-law, Billy R. Allen.

Mr. Godfrey was a member of Floyd Creek Baptist Church. His life was described as being Christ-like, a man with a giving heart, someone who would help anyone in need, showed his love by his actions, was a hard worker and loved his work as a flooring contractor. He was crazy about his granddaughter and loved to take her to feed the deer, donkeys and fish. He was a collector of coca-cola memorabilia, a trophy hunter, taking many trips out west and loved classic cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Melony Allen Godfrey, to whom he married Aug. l4, 1976; one son, Ritchie Godfrey of Taylorsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Jason Liber of Taylorsville; his granddaughter, Elice Kay Liber; his mother, Elene Godfrey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Bill Ledford of Emerson; Carolyn and Jimmy Churchill of Acworth; Gail Bartlett of White; mother-in-law, Kathy Allen of Taylorsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Melissa and Joel King of Adairsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Floyd Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Roger Fisher and Parnick Jennings, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services Saturday from 5 - 9 p.m.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. and will include: Leeroy Shepherd, Gerald Free, Junior Neal, Jackie Gentry, Harvey Woods, Cary Hayes, Shane Watson and Crawder Free. The family will accept flowers; but for those who wish to make contributions, please send them to Floyd Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
