Mr. Robert Felton Bailey, Jr., age 82, of 232 Pinson Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at his residence.Mr. Bailey was born in Bartow County, GA on July 13, 1924, the son of the late Robert Frank Bailey, Sr. and Lillie Mae Brookshire Bailey. He retired from the Laborers Local Union # 752 after twenty-seven years of service. Mr. Bailey served in the United States Army during World War II and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, fishing, and attending to his fruit trees. In addition to his parents Mr. Bailey is preceded in death by a son, Stanley Thomas Bailey on November 5, 2001; three brothers, Hershel Bailey, Bethel Bailey, and Charles Bailey; and four sisters, Thelma Colston, Pauline Jackson, Lucile Shook, and Mildred Gruber.Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Johnnie Winkle Bailey to whom he was married on December 21, 1946; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Sherri Bailey of Shannon, GA; and Donald and Debra Bailey of Rome, GA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Damon Bailey of Kennesaw, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma Jean and Bill McKamey of Lookout Mountain, TN and Verta and Clay Stephens of Calhoun, GA; special nephew, Melton Bailey; and a special neighbor, Jerry Blakenship. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 1:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Larry McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military rites.
