Robert Barnette

Robert Gene Barnette, 83, of Cartersville passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2014 at Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome.

Born on August 19, 1930 he was the son of the late Robert Claude Barnette and the late Odell Vera Martin Barnette. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Rachel Bailey Barnette. Gene was employed as a dispatcher for Lewis Carpet until his retirement. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Gene was a thrifty, "salt of the earth" person. He loved to garden and use his tractor.
He was also an animal lover who loved his dog Bart, but he will most be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Cindy Barnette; his daughter, Debbie Gaines Grooms; his grandchildren and their spouses, Tina Coffey, Breanne and Eric Pettepher, Crystal Barnette, Robert and Ashley Grooms and Jake Barnette; and his great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Grooms, Christian Grooms and Bailey Pettepher.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend Clinton Green officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
