Robert Farrer

Mr. Robert Gordon Farrer, age 80, of Rome, GA, lost his battle with cancer, early Thursday morning, July 23rd, at the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.



Mr. Farrer was born in Floyd County on February 6, 1929, the son of the late Gordon Lee and Ruby Millican Farrer. He was retired after forty years of employment with Georgia Kraft, now Inland-Rome. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. In 2008, Mr. Farrer was honored with a Korean War medal for his service. In his spare time Mr. Farrer enjoyed fishing, working in his garden, wandering through flea markets, taking walks on the hill, and spending time with his family, friends and

his dogs. He was a member of Wesley Southern Methodist Church.



Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Louise Gray Farrer of Rome; two sons,, Scott and David Farrer; four grandchildren, Crystal, Kacie, Wesley and Shelby Farrer all of Rome; one sister, Janice Young of Silver Creek, GA; one sister-in-law, Jo Smith and her husband Charles Smith of Shannon; several nieces, nephews and cousins along

with great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.



Graveside and interment services will be held Saturday, July 25,2009 at 2:00P.M. in the East View cemetery with Rev. Eric Whelchel officiating. The Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard will present the flag.



The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.



Pallbearers will include the following gentlemen: Bernard Bridges, J.T. Edenfield, Wesley Farrer, Eric Fox, Greg Goss and Tommy Gray.



In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Heyman Hospice Care at Floyd Hospital, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA. 30162-0163 or the charity of your choice.
