Robert Howard Mercer, 77, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on June 23, 1944, in Greenville, Kentucky, he is the son of the late Joseph Howard Mercer and Lucy Jane Mercer and the grandson of the late Lum and Effie Mercer. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Bill Mercer and Donald Eugene Mercer and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carmen Mercer; his children Jennifer (Eddie) Whorton, Tara (Mark) Tomczyk, and Bert (Erin) Mercer; grandchildren Jared Whorton, Ryan Tomczyk, Kyle Tomczyk, Mckenna Tomczyk, Oliver Mercer, and Emerson Mercer; brother Tom (Susan) Mercer; many nieces and nephews including Brad Mercer, Stacy Carpenter, Don Mercer, Bill Mercer, Chris Mercer, and Mike Mercer; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The love of his life was his family. Robert loved our Lord and Savior with the heart of a servant faithfully serving his church and the many communities in which he lived and worked. He took huge pride in being a Vietnam Veteran; spent over 50 dedicated years in the hospitality industry until his retirement in 2015; and was one of the biggest fans of OU Sooners football.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Pastor Dr. Steve Schofield officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery at a later date with Pastor Derek Ray officiating. In Lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bert Mercer, Eddie Whorton, Mark Tomczyk, Jared Whorton, Ryan Tomczyk, and Kyle Tomczyk.
