Robert Reid

December 11, 1918 — October 21, 2009

Mr. Robert Joel Reid, age 90, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.



Mr. Reid was born in Luthersville, GA on December 11, 1918, the son of the late Colonel Reno Reid and Mattie Joe Rowe Reid and had lived in Floyd County since 1953 when he was hired by Kraft to start up the new paper plant. He was a Deacon and member of Pisgah Baptist Church for more than 55 years. He retired as a pipe fitter and was a member of the Atlanta Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 72. Mr. Reid served in the CC during WWII and worked traveling construction that took him all over the US. Later in life he traveled again with friends, he enjoyed Braves Baseball, visiting friends, Joy Club, and most of all, passing wisdom to the younger generation. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his wife Sophie Gladys Reid (married Oct 1, 1939) to whom he was married for 63 wonderful years; one sister, Maude Swagart, beloved church members, fellow workers, friends and neighbors.



Survivors include an only son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Kristi Reid of Rome, several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.



A Celebration of Life and Entombment services will be held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Harold Pollard and Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating.



The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.



The honorary pallbearers will be Jim Bell, B.R. Berry, Herman Brock, Bobby Holder, Joe Horst, Henry Hunter, Jack Mull, Russell Payton, Clyde Tate, Jessie Tolbert and ALL the staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center on the 4th floor.
