Mr. Robert Elwood Wentz, age 76, of Cave Spring, GA, died Friday May 7, 2004 at his residence.Mr. Wentz was born in Clay County, Alabama, October 19, 1927, son of the late, Charley and Vera White Wentz but had spent the early part of his life in Floyd County. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17 and later served in the U S Navy during WW II, as a Dirigible Flight Instructor. After serving in the Navy he returned to Rome and Floyd County to make his home. He attended Georgia Tech and became an engineer. He had resided in Florida, Minnesota, Virginia, Peru, South America and for 28 years had resided in California where he was a mechanical engineer with a medical manufacturing company. He returned to Floyd County over 1 year ago to make his home. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Poole Wentz and by a daughter Paula Wentz February 22, 2003. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, flying, and playing golf.Survivors include; 3 daughters, Linda Wingate of Orlando, FL, Teresa Sartin of Rome, GA, and Donna Stowe of Atlanta, GA, two sisters; LaMerrel Lipscomb of LaGrange, GA and Jean Poole of Alabama, a brother; Charles Wentz of Alabama, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Robert Elwood Wentz will be held on Friday, May 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery near Forney, Alabama.Pallbearers serving include; Michael Sartin, Wayne Long, Floyd Robinson, Charles BrindleWilliam Morgan, Donny Durruss, and E. C.
