Robert Marcus Wheeler, better known as "Bob" or "R.M.", age 68, of 14 Blackwelder Lane, Rome GA, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in a local hospital.Mr. Wheeler was born in Floyd County, on September 4, 1935, son of the late Jessie James and Bessie Iona Thacker Wheeler. He was a 1954 graduate of Pepperell High School. Following graduation Mr. Wheeler enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines. He specifically worked with the Army Security Agency. Mr. Wheeler continued his civic duty by being a life member of AMVET Frost-Harless Post 42, Grand Lodge of Georgia, and was also a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&AM. Mr. Wheeler retired from the Georgia Power Company where he worked on the line crew and as a safety and health consultant at Plant Bowen. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Wheeler was a dedicated and loving father to his two children. He was especially proud of his two granddaughters who proudly referred to him as "papa". In his leisure time, Mr. Wheeler, enjoyed relaxing and fishing at his cabin in Telico Plains, TN. He married Fay Don Cook on July 22, 1961 and was preceded in death by her on December 22, 1977. Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death also by one brother, Carl Wheeler, two sisters, Alene Wilson and Frances Wilbanks and one nephew, Jackie Wheeler.Mr. Wheeler is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Matthew Todd Wheeler and his wife Frona Jewel "Pebbles" Pace Wheeler, and Marcus Vance Wheeler of Rome; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler and Frona Mary~Katherine Wheeler of Rome; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggie Wheeler Jones Storino and Glen Storino; one brother and sister-in-law, J.W.( Jake) and Phyllis Wheeler of Acworth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral service of Mr. Wheeler will be held at 3 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2004, in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Burnham officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.Mr. Wheeler will lie in-state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 8 P.M. At other hours the family can be reached at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Wheeler, 66 Ramblewood Drive, Rome, Ga. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 2:30 and include Ronald "Doc" Wheeler, Lennie Wheeler, Van Wheeler, Stanley Wheeler, Kyle Jones, Klevin Jones, Dwayne Petty, and Tommy Mathis.
