Roy Cowart

Mr. Roy Lee Cowart, 87, of 125 Cass-White Rd., Cassville passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 at the Cartersville Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Bartow County, he was born October 22, 1920 and was the son of the late Oscar Earnest Cowart and the late Frona Harmon Cowart.

Roy enjoyed gardening, fishing, wood working, and "piddling." He had retired from Goodyear after 43 years of service as a fixer and was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sara Lou Cowart; his children, Roy Welton Cowart, Jerry Calvin and Betty Sue Cowart; his brother, U.Z. Cowart; and his sister, Florine Cowart.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Cowart; his daughter-in-law, Judy Cowart; his step-daughter, Margaret Chandler and her husband Billy; his granddaughters, Robin Chastain, Bobbi Cowart, and Sandy Cowart; his grandsons, Ronnie Cowart, Ricky Cowart, Bill Chandler, and Glen Chastain; his great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alex Chastain, Tiffany, Chris, and Kelly Cowart, and Virgil Gentry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ralph Shook and Rev. Gene Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Cassville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Chandler, Chris Cowart, Alex Chastain, Virgil Gentry, Jessie White, and Buck White. Pallbearers are requested to be at the funeral home by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
