Roy Silvers

December 26, 1931 — February 11, 2010

Mr. Roy James Silvers, age 78, of 115 Larkspur Lane, Rome, GA died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Fifth Avenue Health Care Center following a long illness.



Mr. Silvers was born in Murray County, GA on December 26, 1931 to the late Charlie E. Silvers and Beatrice Holder Silvers. Mr. Silvers grew up in Rome and was a graduate of Johnson High School. He had worked for Lockheed Corp. and prior to his retirement had been employed for 35 years in the water department with the City of Rome. Mr. Silvers was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served eighteen months in Furth, Germany and also during the Korean Conflict having received the rank as Corporal. He enjoyed watching Georgia play football and he played softball several years himself with the recreation department. In addition to his parents Mr. Silvers was preceded in death by his brothers, Elbert L. Silvers and Charles J. Silvers.



Survivors include his wife Tera Mae Ballard Silvers, to whom he was married November 25, 1955; son, Steve Silvers of Rome; daughter, Regina Silvers of Rome; grandsons,

Devon Silvers, Dustin Silvers and Drew Silvers all of Rome; two sisters, Bernice Mooney and Doris Newman both of Rome. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of the military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 P.M. on Saturday: Jonathan Harris, Malcolm Talley, Jimmy Swanson, Bobby Savage, Jerry Blankenship, Richard Wyatt and Gerald Tucker.
