Mrs. Ruby Lee Smith Cherry, age 67, of 663 Woods Road, Rome, passed away on April 14, 2004 at her residence following an extended illnessMrs. Cherry was born on September 7, 1936 in Hamilton County, Tennessee, the daughter of Ed Smith and Ulee Moon Smith. She resided at 663 Woods Road for 47 years, where she and her husband raised their family. Mrs. Cherry was employed by Champion Garments for 16 years and by Ed Spears Manufacturing for 12 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Cherry was preceded in death by her parents.Survivors include her husband, Gene Cherry, to whom she was married to on June 30, 1956; sons, Phillip W. (Gerri Ann) Cherry of Summerville, GA and Sammy L. (Samantha) Cherry of Rome, GA; daughters, Lynnette (Vince) Reed of Mississippi, Judy (Keith) McDonald of Rome, GA and Valerie (Jeff) Rollins of Rome, GA; ; brothers, David Smith of Lindale, Frank Smith of Silver Creek, Robert Smith of Cave Spring, William Smith of Rome, Tim Smith of Rome, James Smith of Kentucky and Millard Smith of Rome; sister, Dorothy Bailey of Rome; grandchildren, Deb Cherry, Michael Cherry, Phillip T. Cherry, Stephanie Stout, Vanessa Huether, Justin McDonald and Dusty Mazzo; great grandchildren, Katie Austin Stout and Hiedi Elizabeth Huether.Funeral service will be held at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Friday, April 16th at 11:00 am with Rev. Alan Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel tonight (Thursday) from 7:00 until 9:00 pm.
