Ruby Gordon

Mrs. Ruby Caldwell Gordon, age 94, of the Shannon community, died Friday, January 20, 2006, in a local hospital.Mrs. Gordon was born on December 5, 1911, in Whitfield County, GA, the daughter of the late Mitchell E. and Ida Deverell Caldwell. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shannon. Mrs. Gordon enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed home, family and her grandchildren. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Willie W. Gordon, on February 11, 1993, to whom she was married on July 14, 1940. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Effie Bryant.Mrs. Gordon is survived by a daughter, Nancy Graham of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Brenda Gordon of Rome; four grandchildren, Kerry Gordon, Chad Gordon and Kimberly Rinehart, all of Rome, and Melissa Graham of Athens, GA. Seven great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Gordon will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Sheeley officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.Mrs. Gordon will lay in-state in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday by 1:30 p.m. and include Kerry Gordon, Chad Gordon, Ralph Gordon, David Rinehart, Melvin Roper and Ron Johnston.
