Ruby Lee Sparks, 82, of Cartersville passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her daughter�s residence after a long battle with cancer. Born May 31, 1927 in Taylorsville, she was the daughter of the late Marshall David Godfrey and the late Myrtle Lee Corbin. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harvey Godfrey; her sister, Edna Thompson; and her former husband, C.B. Sparks.
Before her courageous battle with cancer and before losing her eyesight, Mrs. Sparks loved shopping. Despite being blind, she was a very remarkable and independent woman. Mrs. Sparks lived alone, cooked for herself, and kept her own house. She enjoyed gospel music and listened to the live gospel and preaching programs on WYXC. Mrs. Sparks was also a member of the Open Bible Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Lawrence Wood of Rome and Trish and Paul McMaugh of White; her grandchildren, Tonya and Shane Bagley, Jason Cole and Buffie Mercado, Matthew Cagle, and Stacie and Shawn Snow; seven great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, George �Doc� Godfrey of Rome, Vance and Emily Godfrey of Cartersville, Mary and Jesse Hunter of Rome, and Geneva and Odell Ferguson of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Larry Huskins officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 2 � 4 p.m. Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
