Russel Dean Gatrel, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025. He was born on March 6, 1955 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Ralph Gatrel and Mary Crane Gatrel. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, David Gatrel.
Russel was a simple man, a loving father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.
He had a lifelong passion for tinkering with anything mechanical — from trucks to tractors to just about anything that needed fixing. His hands were rarely still, and he took pride in figuring out how things worked and bringing them back to life.
More than anything, he loved his family. He was a devoted dad who taught by example — through hard work, patience, and a big heart. His lessons went far beyond what he built with his hands; he taught his family the value of doing things right, helping others, and finding joy in simple moments.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Laura Gatrel of 20 years, his children, Stephanie Williams, Amanda Rommel, and Derrick Gatrel, grandchildren, Haley Rossi, Chase Drake, and Danna Gatrel.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Shinall Cemetery in Cartersville, Georgia. Friends and family are invited to raise a glass in his honor and share stories of a man who could fix just about anything — and who left behind a legacy of love and laughter. Please plan on arriving at 1:30 pm to see Mr. Gatrel before the service.
