Mrs. Ruth Brown Boykin, age 83, formerly of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in a local hospital. She was formerly of Savannah, GA moving to Rome in 1954 for her husband to take a position with Georgia Kraft.
Mrs. Boykin was born in Manassas, GA on January 6, 1927, the daughter of the late Thomas Watson Brown and Onnie Brown White. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Boykin loved to fish, read, travel, and enjoyed the beach. In addition to her parents Mrs. Boykin was preceded in death by her husband, Lovett Wray Boykin; sister, Margaret Powell; and a great aunt, Ruth O�leary.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Greg Hendrix and Barbara and John G. Self all of Rome; three grandchildren, Wade Little, Stacy Gore and her husband, Bill, Jason Self and his wife, Laura all of Rome; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Goolsby, John Goolsby, Lovett Self, Tommi Gore, and Tyler Gore all of Rome; a great aunt, Betty Lucken of Pooler, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Murdock officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel and at other hours will be at a daughter�s residence, 76 Featherstone Rd SW, Rome, GA 30165.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel on Friday by 12:30 P.M.: Jason Self, Wade Little, Greg Hendrix, John Self, Larry Anderson, and Bill Gore.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Heyman Hospice, c/o Floyd Medical Center, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.
