Mrs. Ruth Bledsoe Chapman, age 91, of 6 Cottage Circle, Rome, GA, died Sunday, August 19, 2007, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Greene County, GA on August 29, 1915, the daughter of the late Jim and Hattie Amerson Bledsoe. She retired from Champion Garment as seamstress and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Chapman enjoyed crafts, sewing, making dolls, and watching television ministry especially Rev. Jackie Culberson and Rev. Joel Osteen. In addition to her parents Mrs. Chapman is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Roy Chapman, Sr. on April 28, 1975; a son, Dewey Roy Chapman, Jr.; a daughter, Betty Carolyn Chapman Pilgrim; and two sisters, Betty Owens and Mamie Richardson.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by two sons, Harold Self and his wife, Sarah of Sumter, SC and Jackie Self of Rome; a son-in-law, James Pilgrim of Rome; twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Culberson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Chapman will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Wednesday by 10:30 A.M.: David Chapman, Dewey Chapman, Jason Henson, Bobby Self, Dean Self, Gene Self, and Tommy Hill.
