Mrs. Ruth Kelton Pitts, age 74, of 3665 Wax Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, peacefully at the home of her daughter in Temple, GA. Mrs. Ruth Pitts was born on April 2, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Annie Mae Benefield Kelton. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1972 until moving to Temple, GA in February of this year. Mrs. Pitts was a housewife, but enjoyed working outside of the home. She was associated with Holiday Inn for several years until retiring. In her spare time, Mrs. Pitts also enjoyed flower gardening and bird-watching but her grandchildren were her true delight. Every new child born into her family was blessed with a "Nana's bath". True to form of any good grandmother each child was scrubbed head to toe, oiled, powdered, and wrapped with love. She is remembered as a faithful, loving, and supportive wife and mother. Mrs. Pitts is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Roy Lee Pitts Sr. and a daughter Joyce Jeannette Pitts.Mrs. Pitts is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Annette and Michael Foster of Silver Creek, GA, Nancy Lee and Gary Cole of Temple, GA, and Terrie Lynn Pitts also of Silver Creek; one son, Roy Lee Pitts Jr. of Rome; six grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Ken Meese, Gary and Kim Cole, Nathan and Angelina Vaqura-Linke, Ben and Marla Cole, Alison and Barry Quick, and Roy Lee Pitts III; seven great-grandchildren, Austin Meese, Breanna and Hunter Cole, Aubrey Vaqura, Oscar Vaqura-Linke, Lindsey Quick, and Eathan Cole.Funeral services for Mrs. Pitts will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ferrell Drummond officiating. The interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Pitts will lie in-state in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. At other hours they will be at the residence of the daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Cole, 535 West Hickory Level Rd., Temple, GA.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 1:45 p.m. and includes Gary Cole Jr., Nathan Vaqura-Linke, Ben Cole, Barry Cole, Ken Meece, and Steve Gercak. .
