Mrs. Ruth Sparks, age 88, of 28 Montre Circle, Silver Creek, GA, a former resident of 16 North Blanche Avenue, Rome, GA, died Tuesday evening, June 15, 2004, at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Doyal and Elizabeth Sparks.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Sparks was born on February 22, 1916, and had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County her entire life. She was a member of the Mary's Memorial Baptist Church of Marietta, GA. Mrs. Sparks loved gardening and was an excellent cook. She was married on October 12, 1934, to Rev. Hugh D. Sparks and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2002. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph Asbury McCain and Lula Lanning McCain, four sisters, Bessie McCain, Mary Knowles, Jessie Elrod and Geraldine Barker, and a brother, Fred McCain.Mrs. Sparks is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Doyal and Elizabeth Sparks of Silver Creek; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Lyn Sparks of Pensacola, FL, Karen and James Ray of Rome, Judy and Jerry Pankey of Ellijay, GA, and Connie and Michael Dugger of Dallas, GA. Seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Sparks will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Dubois and Rev. Ladell Jacobs officiating.
