Mrs. Sarah Joyce Johnson, 75, of 117 N. Bartow St., Cartersville passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at her residence. Born on September 18, 1932 in Gordon County, she was the daughter of the late John Holmes and the late Ethel Oneida Long Holmes. Mrs. Johnson had retired from Lewis Carpet as a mender after working for 29 years.
Mrs. Johnson loved cooking, canning and fishing, and she especially loved her grandkids and great grandkids. She was also a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Ryo). Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert C. Johnson, Sr.; her son, Delbert C. Johnson, Sr.; her grandsons, David Warren and Jeff Warren; and a special friend, Robert Howell.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Franklin of Cartersville, Glenda and Jerry Hyde of White, and Debra Wilson and Timmy James of Cartersville; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Allison Johnson of Euharlee, Terry Johnson and Brenda Sills of Calhoun, Hubert Johnson, Jr. and Laura Johnson of Cartersville, and John T. Johnson of Cartersville; her brother, Kenneth Holmes of Cartersville; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Duvall of Cartersville, Betty and Jimmy Duvall of Cartersville, and Diane and Allen Melton of Calhoun; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and aunts.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Jerry Black, Rev. Albert Summey, Mr. Parnick Jennings, Jr., and Mr. Allen Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Wilson, Lance Johnson, Blake Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Michael Hyde, Stephen Johnson, Todd Turner, and Gary Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be David Johnson, Dan Duffy, Tom Duffy, Lee Hagerman, Josh Franklin, and Brian Johnson. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to be at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
The family received friends from 5 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville.
