Mrs. Pearl Payne Hardin McCool, age 92, of 220 North Avery Road, Rome passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at a local healthcare facility.Mrs. McCool was born in Floyd County on May 6, 1913 the daughter of the late William Oscar Payne and Bessie Price Payne. She had lived all of her life in Floyd County and was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church, a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and a member of the Coosa Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. McCool was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, H.T. Hardin in 1969, her second husband, Oscar McCool in 1996, four brothers, W.M. Payne, Henry Payne, Paul Payne and J.W. Payne and by one sister, Mary Kay.Survivors include two sons and daughters in-law, Randy and Nita Hardin and Freddy and Ellen Hardin all of Rome; one daughter and son in-law, Tommie and Gus Horne of Rome; grandchildren, Tim and Marsha Horne, Kim and Matt Mathis, Chuck and Karen Hardin, Jacki and Chris Dotson and Jon Hardin; great grandchildren, Jackson Horne, Savannah Horne, Ashley, Amy and Andy Mathis, Colt and Jaycee Hardin and Rhesa and Rheanna Dotson; two sisters, Fran Tate and Ida Davis both of Rome also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. McCool will be held at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church at 2:00 Saturday with Dr. Charles Drummonds and Rev. Max Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Floyd Battles in charge of graveside rites.Mrs. McCool will lie in-state at the church from 1:00 pm until the service hour.The family will accept flowers but those desiring may make donations to the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1410 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA.The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 this evening (Friday) at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family may be contacted at the daughter's (Tommie) residence, 34 East Kenora Drive, Rome.The grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers and should meet at the church by 1:30 Saturday. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mrs. Pearl Hardin McCool.
