Mrs. Sarah �Louise� Smith Ozment age 85, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Ozment was born in Chattooga County, GA, on October 8, 1925, the daughter of the late George T. Smith and Lola Vanpelt Smith. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church for her adult life and taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Ozment enjoyed cooking especially desserts and her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ozment was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Ozment on March 25, 1995; a daughter, Linda Hope Ozment Payne on May 24, 1980; three brothers, Howard Smith, Frank Smith, and Harbin Smith; and a sister, Doris Smith Holder.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Ozment and Connie Ozment Padgett and her husband, Chris all of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Gregory Lynn Payne and his wife, Stephanie of Chicago, Joseph Alan Payne and his wife, Candy of Rome, GA, Lauren Padgett Simpson and her husband, David of Rome, GA, and Christopher Taylor Padgett of Rome, GA; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Hope Payne of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 5, 2010, at 2:30 P.M. in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Dr. David McKenzie and Dr. David Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church by 1:30 P.M.: Hoyt Holder, Tony Smith, Gus Wilson, Larry Corley, Johnny Edwards, Floyd Ozment, Lavonne Ozment, and Byron Green.
