Stephen �Steve� P. Wynkoop, 64, of Cartersville passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Cartersville Medical Center after an extended battle with illness. Born June 24, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Rae Elizabeth Mountjoy Wynkoop Hehl and the late Bernard J. (Bud) Wynkoop. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward J. (Joe) Wynkoop, and his sister, Mary Neff.
Steve was a retired veteran having served in the United States Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the Army National Guard. Steve was employed as a Senior Quality Engineer at Lockheed-Martin during his military career and continued after his military retirement.
Steve had a great sense of humor and was known for his pranks and practical jokes. He enjoyed woodworking, and until his health declined he generously offered his assistance to help others in need with home repairs, electrical repairs, auto repairs, etc. In recent years Steve enjoyed watching television and going to the movies. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wynkoop of Cartersville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Carol Senko of Chandler, Arizona and Wayne and Christina Wynkoop of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Tim Senko, Michael Wynkoop, and Laney Wynkoop; his mother, Rae Hehl of Pontiac, Michigan; his brothers, Gerald Wynkoop of Huber Heights, Ohio and William Wynkoop of Middletown, Ohio; his sister, Susan Stapleton of Pontiac, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Georgia National Cemetery with Mr. Wayne Peardon and Mr. Kenny Miller officiating.
A memorial service in Dayton, Ohio will be scheduled at a later date.
