Rev. Albert R. Summey, 85, of Adairsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, June 12, 2012, at Cartersville Medical Center surrounded by his family. A native of Bartow County, he was born on May 7, 1927, the son of the late Elihue R. Summey and the late Nellie Abernathy Summey. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy B. Summey; and his brothers, Raymond (Red) Summey, Roy A. Summey and J.T. Summey.
Albert started work at the early age of sixteen at Piedmont Chenille located in downtown Cartersville. He was then called to serve his country in the U.S. Army, starting in the 5th Infantry Division at Jackson, South Carolina. After basic training he entered school to become a cook. He graduated from Cook and Baker School while still at Ft. Jackson. Following his graduation he was deployed to Japan where he earned the rank of Staff Sargent. Following his active duty he served five additional years in the Reserves.
Albert spent most of his life working for Borden Chemicals in Atlanta and was Plant Manager when they sold to Unilever Brothers in Marietta where he continued to work as Assistant Manager totaling forty years of service. In 1991, before retiring, he came to work at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home where he worked for nineteen years, leaving only when his health began to fail. He was a great man and was a valuable asset to our staff.
During this time he also pastored Clear Creek Baptist Church on two different occasions, the first time for 2 � years and the second for nine years. His main goal in life was to touch some loss soul and to be a help to those that he met along his journey. Albert wanted to invite his family and friends to come visit him in his now �Brand New Home�.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Elihue and Louise Summey; his best and most precious friend, Mae Moehrke, to whom he loved dearly; his siblings, Rev. Francis Summey, Rev. Jesse Summey and wife, Barbara, and Maycille Hufstetler; along with his sisters-in-law, Arzetta Buchanan, Carol Buchanan, Jean Tritt and Edna McIntyre; and a special nephew, Bob Buchanan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Parnick Jennings, Rev. Charles Moore and Rev. Donnie Summey officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Summey, Jeffrey Summey, Howard McNeil, Ricky Summey, Bob Buchanan and Larry Farmer. Nephews, Marion, David, Ronnie, Richard, Keith and Jeff Summey along with one very special honorary pallbearer, Bill Small and former and current employees of the Parnick Jennings Funeral Home will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
