Susan Carney

April 29, 1962 — December 19, 2009

Our beloved Susan Irene Holloway Carney went to be with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ on December 19, 2009.

She passed away at her home in San Francisco, California.

Susan was born April 29, 1962 in Rome Georgia, she was a former member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church and attended Coosa High School; graduating in 1980.

Shortly after graduation she married Kenneth Jeff Carney, also of Rome, and lived in several states before settling in San Francisco, in 2000.

For the majority of her adult life, Susan was employed by several large accounting firms, most recently PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

We are so very proud of our Susan; recently she decided to change careers when her love for children and understanding of a childs heart lead her to pursue a life long dream of becoming a doctor, with the ultimate goal of helping troubled children in the field of child psychology.

Pursuing this dream, Susan graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Ashford University. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, graduating Suma Cum Laude, with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Susan was continuing her education in psychology, pursuing her Doctorate in Psychology at the very prestigious Saybrook University, where she was maintaining her high academic standards.

Susan chose Saybrook carefully for its standard of excellence and commitment to the Humanistic movement in psychology. This approach to psychology emphasizes compassion, empathy, non-judgment, and positive regard as opposed to the standard model of identifying and focusing on peoples problems. This of course epitomizes Susan.

Her colleagues and the faculty of Saybrook are devastated to loose her. The field of psychology has suffered a tremendous loss; Saybrook consistently produces not only outstanding practitioners and researchers, but also leaders in policy and advocacy. Susans specialization was child psychology; and her commitment to working with children reflected her instinctual love and understanding of young people.

Susan was a born again Christian, a gentle, loving, and caring soul; she touched the hearts of everyone whom knew her, family, friends, and classmates. All will sorely miss her.

Susan is survived by her former husband, Kenneth Jeff Carney; Mother and Father Raymond and Gwen Holloway, of Rome; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Lori Holloway of Rome and Mark E. and Lynn Holloway of Summerville; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Rex Carter of Shannon, and several nieces and nephews.
