Susie Brooks

Mrs. Susie Phene Brooks, age 91, of 12 Chateau Drive, Rome, GA, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in a local nursing home.Mrs. Brooks was born in Haralson County, GA, on November 21, 1914, the daughter of the late John Benjaman and Lena May Johnson Morgan. She worked at Rome Hosiery Mill for several years and then was a homemaker. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and W.M.U. She loved her church, family and her flowers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brooks is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Brooks; two grandsons, Ricky Brooks and Jerry Brooks; a brother, Harold Morgan; and two sisters, Kathleen Wilder and Dolly Moates.Mrs. Brooks is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Emily Brooks of Rome; six daughters, Betty Overby of Rome, Martha Lewis and her husband, Marion of Rome; Wanda Kelley of Lindale, GA, Sylvia Drake and her husband, John of Rome, Gayle Watson and her husband, Danny of Calhoun, GA, and June Storey and her husband, James of Rome; a brother, Stanley Morgan of Rome; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Drake officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.Mrs. Brooks will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at other hours can be contacted at a daughter's and son-in-law's house, Martha and Marion Lewis, 973 Huffaker Road, Rome, GA or at the individual children's home. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral on Friday by 1:30 P.M.
