Mrs. Sylvia Gennell Wilson, age 59, of 142 Ellis Road, Rome, passed away Tuesday morning, August 24, 2004 at a local medical center.Mrs. Wilson was born in Rome, Georgia on July 22, 1945, the daughter of Marshall G. Barton and the late Iva Jean Tanner Barton. Mrs. Wilson attended the West Rome Church of God. She loved spending time with her children, enjoyed cooking, collecting dolls and being a homemaker. Mrs. Wilson raised two of her grandchildren.. She was preceded in death by her mother, Iva Jean Barton, two brothers, Wayne Barton and Tim Barton.Survivors include her husband, J.C.Atkins of Rome; one son, Von Allmon of Rome; three daughters, Brenda Butler, Rhonda Hackney and Cindy Barwick all of Rome; her father, Marshall Barton; five sisters, Patricia Carrol, Angel Clark, Charlotte Clark, Shelia Brandt and Teresa Hills, all of Rome. Nine grandchildren also survive.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 26th at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Oley Wilson and Rev. Phillips Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel tonight (Wednesday) from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:45 am Thursday and include Johnathan Wilson, Neil Brannon, Jacob Allmon, Corey Allmon, Kerry Kines and Michael Kines.
