Ted Lanier Hicks

May 2, 1945 — Sep 7, 2026

Cartersville

Ted Lanier Hicks of Cartersville, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

Ted was born on May 2, 1945, in Dallas, Georgia, to the late Eldred Claude “EC” Hicks and Lois Harris Hicks. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Pledger Hicks, William “WD” Hicks, John “JN” Hicks, and Jerry Hicks; and his sister, Edith (John) Scuiletti.

Ted is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda Hicks; his son, David Hicks of Cedartown; his daughter, Carla (Patrick) Mahan of Cartersville; his daughter, Heather (Jonas) Abernathy of Cartersville; his brothers, Kenneth (Lisa) Hicks of Dallas and Ricky (Tammy) Hicks of Rockmart; his eight grandchildren, Will (Catherine) Hicks, Tyler (Taylor) Eidson, Hallie (Connor) Lynch, Abbe (Michael) Campuzano, Chandler Dupree, Kadence Dupree, Riley Mahan, and Reagan Mahan; six great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Ted dedicated most of his life to serving and protecting others. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office after more than 30 years of service to his community. Prior to joining Bartow County, he served with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office. His many years in law enforcement were an important part of his life and reflected his commitment to serving the communities he called home.

Outside of his years in law enforcement, Ted enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He loved watching NASCAR races, spending time fishing, and taking a trip to the casino whenever he had the chance.

Ted loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. Like many families, life did not always allow for as much time together as he would have wanted, and one of Ted’s greatest wishes was simply for more time with the people he loved. His family was important to him, and the memories made throughout the years will remain a treasured part of his legacy.

When his time came, Ted passed peacefully surrounded by his family.
