Thomas Jackson �Jack� Boyd, 79, of White went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 1, 1931 in Maryville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Marion Henry Boyd and the late Geraldine Smith Boyd. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie Mae Adams and Della Faye Teague; a brother, Marion Junior Boyd; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edith and Harley McMichen.
Jack was a retired brick mason who laid the brick for the Walk of Honor for Bartow Veterans at the Frank Moore Administration Building. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Jack was also a member of Atco Baptist Church where he served as an usher.
Jack loved his family and was often called upon to make home repairs or solve a family problem. He also loved to travel and made several trips out west and northward visiting many states.
Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years, Joyce McMichen Boyd; his two daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Hightower and Judy and Greg Smith; his grandchildren, Erin Gresham, Lance and Katie Gresham, Heath Hightower, and Grant Hightower; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and MaryAnn Boyd, Bobby and Margie Boyd, Jerry Don and Becky Boyd; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Earl Barron; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Angela and Jimmy Morris; his stepfather-in-law, Edward Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends, George and Marie Dunaway.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Charles Ivey, Rev. Marc Curlee, and Rev. Lamar Guyton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by the American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Dale Boyd, Michael Boyd, Tony Boyd, and Steve Boyd, Doug Teague, and Larry Lowe. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
