Thomas Eugene �Gene� Cooper, 90, of Cartersville passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 after a brief illness. Born September 25, 1920 in Cassville, he was the son of the late Henry Harper Cooper and the late Rosetta Watkins Cooper. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Cooper and Lucille Akins; and his brother, Seward Cooper.
Gene loved to work. He had been employed with Goodyear for 37 years with perfect attendance. Gene also loved working in his garden. He was especially known for his tomatoes, peppers, and collards.
Gene was known for his generosity in helping others. He enjoyed working on clocks and at one point had over eighty clocks which he gave away to others. Gene also had a second career with his wife creating and selling crafts in the mountain festivals.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Army. Serving during WW II, he spent most of his military service in the Pacific Theatre. He was also of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Greenway Cooper; several nieces and nephews whom he loved as children and grandchildren; his sister, Nell McIntyre; his brother, Ollen Cooper; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ovell Nation officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post 42.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Nation, Scott Storey, Stacey Siniard, Harold Siniard, Steve Greenway, and Jackie Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Acey Burton, Robert Jolly, Bobby Chastain, Paul David Wilson, Donald Wilson, and Randy Wilson. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
