Mr. Thomas J. Nichols, age 60, of 2544 Calhoun Road, Rome, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the residence.Mr. Nichols was born in Floyd County, Georgia on September 13, 1943, the son of the late Charles Tillman Nichols and Jessie Mae Jackson Nichols. He had lived most of his life in Rome and Floyd County. He was a member of the Lindale Church of God. Mr. Nichols was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion Post #5 and an honorary road captain for the Annual Open Door Home Ride. He was an electrician and a member of IBEW Local 613 for 37 years. Mr. Nichols enjoyed spending time with his family, liked to fish, work in his workshop and ride motorcycles.Survivors include his loving wife, Faye Dugger Nichols, to whom he was married November 25, 2000; one son, Thomas Jackson Nichols, Jr., his wife, Tonya and their children, Makayla and Megan Nichols of Rome; three daughters, Tammy Nichols Peach, her husband, Gordon and their children, Halyn, Jessica, and Nicholas of Rome; Bridgett Nichols Smith, her husband, Bill, and their daughter, Kaleigh of Dacula; Jannine Wheeler and her children, Tiffany and Emily of Rome; step children, James Peek; Byron Ward, his wife, Tonya, their son, Andrew, wife, Hanna and their children, Zackary and Maddison; Debbie Cornett, her husband, Harry, their daughters, Elizabeth and Christie Lynn, her husband, Ethan and daughter, Abigail; one brother, Glenn Tillman (Tim) Nichols and wife, Pat of Fayetteville; Aunts, Ann Jackson McCroy of Rome; Ruby Jackson Cowart of Adairsville; Mildred Bowman of California and Jewell Green of California; nieces, nephews and two special cousins, Kathy King of Macon and Rita Nichols of Arizona also survive.A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 19th at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. with the Reverend Will Clonts of Lindale Church of God officiating.The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel on Thursday from 4:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m with the memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Open Door Home.The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home, 2542 Shorter Avenue, Rome has charge of the services for Mr. Thomas J. Nichols.
