Tom Akins, 88 of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on October 13, 2024. He was born in Cartersville, Georgia on April 17, 1936. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Akins; his mother, Lillian Black Akins; extended daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Adams; and grandson; Adam Carol.
He is survived by his sons, Tommy Akins; JP Akins, grandchildren, Melanie/Justin Nelan and James Akins; daughter, Alinda (Bo) Kinskey; grandchildren, Joseph Kinskey and Sara Kinskey; grandchildren, Becky (Glenn) Brookshire, Wesley Adams, David (Lena) Adams, and daughter, Marilyn Lewis.
Tom was 1 out of 14 children raised by a single mother. He was known for his artistry and creativity in grade school and would draw Christmas mural on the chalkboards. He went on to open his own business in 1973 after working for Joe Brown Electric for 22 years. Being a self-made man and ambitious helped him build influential relationships that help bring industry and safer developments into Bartow County. He was a hardcore advocate for the Democratic Party, helping arrange many events and fundraisers.
Mr. Akins was also a member of the Homebuilder Association, Cartersville Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club, influencing other to join in to help better the community. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, coordinating many outdoor events to bring family, friends and associates together to enjoy. With his love for the outdoors, he was a true conservationist, helping bring the Etowah Sportsman Club to life along with a federal pass to properties to walk and elevate the health and population of the forest and wildlife. He was a character at heart and loved his family and friends dearly.
The family is hosting a celebration of life for Mr. Akin at 5:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2024 at LifePoint Church located at 610 N. Tennessee Street, Cartersville, Georgia.
