Troy Weaver

March 27, 1945 — January 23, 2025

Troy Weaver passed on January 23, 2025, at the age of 79, following a courageous 18-year battle with leukemia. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones . Troy was born on March 27, 1945, in Mason City , Iowa, to Emory and Violet (Schaefer) Weaver. He was the middle child, with an older brother, Egon, and a younger sister, Candie. Troy enjoyed an adventurous childhood in 1950s small-town Iowa and loved sharing stories about life on the farm.

After graduating from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1963, he attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he would study business and accounting. It's in Fairfield where Troy would meet his future wife, Amanda (Larson) Weaver while they were both working at Fairfield Dairy. Amanda out front serving ice cream and Troy in the back making it. They were married on June 4, 1965. In 1967, Troy was drafted into the US Army and would serve from 1968 to 1971 in Vietnam. After the Army, Troy returned to Parsons College and completed his degree.

In 1973, Troy and Amanda were blessed with a son, Season. Shortly afterward, they moved south and settled in Cartersville, Georgia where Troy began his career with CertainTeed Carpets and Philadelphia Carpets before joining Shaw Industries. He dedicated 37 years to Shaw Industries before retiring in 2012.

After retiring, Troy became busier than ever, discovering a new passion in volunteering with various international nonprofit organizations. He traveled to Africa with Orphan Aid Liberia (Live 2540) to assist children in war-torn Liberia. Later, he and Amanda journeyed to Guatemala in Central America as part of a medical mission with Medical Outreach of America. Troy found joy in sharing his time and talents to help those in need. In addition to his international efforts, he volunteered locally at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville. Troy cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, and was their biggest supporter at all their various activities. When not cheering them on, he could be found working around the house, tending to his garden, watching westerns, collecting military memorabilia, and spending time in St. Simon's Island, Georgia.

Troy was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, having started in Cub Scouts at a young age and earning his Eagle Scout as a teenager. He would go on to be a Scouting leader with Explorers and Boy Scout Troop 24, when Season became a Boy Scout. Troy earned Scouting's Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor that a local Boy Scouts of America council can bestow upon a registered Scouter who has provided outstanding service to the council and its youth. During outings, h e could often be found lashing together lookout towers and rope bridges for the boys' entertainment. He was able to put on his Scouting uniform again when his grandsons became active in Cub Scouts and Season became a leader.

Troy is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Amanda; their son, Season Weaver, and his wife, Ginny; grandsons, Smith Weaver and Emory Weaver, all of Cartersville, Georgia; and many beloved extended family members and friends. Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Violet of Garner, Iowa; brother Egon Weaver of Boone, Iowa; and sister Candie Ruppert of Summerville, South Carolina.
