TSgt. Cecil W. (Sarge) Barfield (rtd), age 80, of 105 Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee, GA, died Monday evening, October 3, 2005, in a local hospital.Mr. Barfield was born in Lafayette, GA, on September 21, 1925, the son of the late Rev. Oscar A. and Annie Mae Price Barfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force, having served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. For a period of time in the service, he was assigned to the Honor Guard that marched at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington Cemetery. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1968, Mr. Barfield was associated with Battey Machinery for over 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Air Force Sergeant's Association. Mr. Barfield was an avid bowler and member of the Taylor's Supermarket Bowling Team. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and building porch swings.Mr. Barfield is survived by his wife, Kathryn Elizabeth Barfield, to whom he was married on October 20, 1956; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Elizabeth Barfield of Raleigh, NC, and Danny and Tanya Barfield of Armuchee; four grandchildren, Christopher William Barfield, Lydia Barfield, Katie Lea Barfield and Daniel Allen Barfield; a step-grandson, Brent Moore and his wife, Stephanie; two sisters, Juanita Lee and Nellie Faye Wooten. Several nieces and nephews also survive.A memorial service for Mr. Barfield will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at his residence, 105 Floyd Springs Road. The Honor Guard from Robbins Air Force Base will confer Military Rites.The family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.An honorary escort will be comprised of Wymon Blalock, Farrell Bray, Larry Lynch, Harry Williams and Joel Boyd.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Toys For Tots, 1 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA, 30165, or to the Disabled American Veterans, Coosa Valley Chapter # 24, 1325 Kingston SR.
