Velma Powell

July 3, 1922 — August 9, 2008

Velma Sewell Powell, age 86, of Cartersville passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Bartow County on July 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James T. Earwood and the late Minnie Boswell. She retired from Union Carbide and enjoyed cooking, playing the organ and doing word puzzles. Mrs. Powell was a member of Cornerstone Church. She is predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Woodrow Sewell, her second husband, Isaiah Powell; her son, J. C. Sewell; her brother, Sterling Earwood; and her sister Thelma Morris.



Survivors include her grandchildren, Nancy and Michael Kennedy of Kingston, Tommy and Kim Sewell of Taylorsville, and Daniel and Susan Sewell of Euharlee; seven great-grandchildren, Josh, Matt and Blake Sewell, Ross Kennedy, Crystal Hufstetler, Casey Berryhill and Lamar Weldon; four great-great grandchildren, Caleb and Taylor Hufstetler, Triston Berryhill and Aubrey Weldon.



Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 in the chapel of the Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Earl Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers are asked to meet Sunday at the funeral home at 2:15 p.m. and will include: David Hufstetler, Matt, Blake and Josh Sewell, Lamar Weldon and Ross Kennedy.
