Mrs. Vera Alexander McNiel, of 505 North 5th Avenue, Rome, GA, died Wednesday evening, March 1, 2006 Mrs. McNiel was born in Floyd County, January 13, 1914, daughter of the late Caleb Archibald and Hester Wood Terhune and had spent her entire life in Rome and Floyd County. She was married to Ernest West Alexander, January 10, 1933 and he preceded her in death June 17, 1986. Mrs. McNiel was later married to James A. McNiel, January 8, 1990 and he preceded her in death March 24, 2002. She was a charter member of the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church where she had served in various positions, to include being a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years, member and past President of the WMU and director of GA's for many years. Mrs. McNiel had been associated with Dellinger Spread Company, Swartz and Miller's Department stores. She had also been a lunch room worker at Model School for several years. She was known for her delicious cakes and had developed a successful cake baking business. Mrs. McNiel was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. She had been associated with several Homemaker and Garden clubs over many years. Mrs. McNiel enjoyed crafts, artistry, needle work, and writing. She was preceded in death by an infant son and five brothers; Claude, Albert, Ladell, Victor and Rev. Wesley Terhune. Mrs. McNiel is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Cloteen Alexander of Rome, and Walter and Lois Alexander of Marietta, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Rev. Norman Money of Rome. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Alexander McNiel will be held Saturday at 2 PM in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery. Mrs. McNiel will remain in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 noon until the funeral hour. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
