Vera Wilmer

Mrs. Vera Bowers Wilmer, age 93, of 26 Juniper Street, Rome, GA, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Wilmer was born in Floyd County, GA, on December 29, 1913, the daughter of the late Matt Taylor and Pluma Powell Bowers. She was a member of South Broad United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women's Group. Also, Mrs. Wilmer was a member of Floyd County Homemakers Club. She retired from Trend Mills in 1980 after eleven years of service. In addition to her parents Mrs. Wilmer is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ivey Wilmer: a daughter, Gloria Dianne Wilmer, three sisters, Marie Bowers Day, Gussie Bowers Hutcherson, and Aline Bowers Horsley Wood; and three brothers, B. Mifflin Bowers, Ralph Leon Bowers, and Huey Albert Bowers.

Mrs. Wilmer is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Bennie and Carolyn Wilmer of Pensacola, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Harold Dove of Anderson, SC; a sister, Louise Bowers Hunter of Cedartown, GA; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at 3:00 P.M. in the Morning View cemetery with Rev. David Buchholz, Rev. Tom Bowen, and J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. and at other hours the family will be at 26 Juniper Street, Rome, GA. The family will gather at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Tuesday and go in procession to the cemetery.
