Mrs. Violet �Granny� Whitener, 57 of Rydal died Friday, June 22, 2012 at her residence. Born March 6, 1955 in Dalton, she was the daughter of the late S.L. Rich and the late Dollie Summey Rich. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Whitener; her sisters, Mary Massingill and Doshie Wilbanks; her brothers A.J. Rich, Warren Rich and Selmer Rich.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandsons and having coffee with her close friends. Granny, as she was known by most, always put her family first in her life.
Survivors include her children, Jenny and Greg Sharpton of Rydal and Shane and Ashley Whitener of Cartersville; her grandsons, Cody Hightower, Silas Sharpton and Logan Whitener; her brothers, Bill and Sandra Rich, Tommy and Rosa Rich, Grady �Chub� Rich all of Chatsworth; her sisters, Bessie McClure, Edna Adams and Wilma Bradley all of Dalton.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2012 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Doug Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in the New Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Dalton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Rich, Wesley Massingill, Buck Bryson, Brent Dean, Brad Wilbanks and Mike Nappier. Zachary Massingill and Charles Massingill will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
