Mr. Walter Lamar Holbrook, age 79, of 53 Tamassee Lane, Rome passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.Mr. Holbrook was born in Floyd County, Georgia on May 23, 1925, the son of the late Alexander Oscar (Dude) Holbrook and Jessie Elizabeth Pendley Holbrook. He had lived all of his life in Floyd County and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Holbrook served in the United States Navy during World War II as a gunnery mate. He was a member of the Coosa #622 F & AM Masonic Lodge, member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion and a member of the Low 12 Club. Mr. Holbrook retired from the Rome Fire Department as a Captain after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, H.A. Holbrook and Pendley Holbrook and by a sister, Mildred Pass.Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn Siniard Holbrook; a son, Donald "Bubba" Holbrook of Rome; three daughters, Missy Mayne of Cave Spring, Debbie Edwards of Rome and Sherri Smith of Cartersville; one sister, Patty Terry of Rome. Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 29th at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Glenn Clonts officiating. Mr. Holbrook will lie in-state at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends tonight (Thursday) from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. At other hours the family may be contacted at the daughter's (Debbie) residence, 203 Charlton Street, Rome.The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mr. Walter Lamar Holbrook.
